AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (6-4) completed a 6-1 trip to Florida with a 10-5 victory over Framingham State (0-9) on Saturday.
Kamden Oliver (Viroqua, Wis./Viroqua) racked up three hits and drove in two.
Connor Olson (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) also had two RBI with two hits and two runs scored.
Nick Argersinger (Bristol, Wis./Westosha Central) and
Anthony Tomczak (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) each added two hits.
Jackson Adams (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig) drove in two runs.
Matt Baumann (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower),
Bradley Comer (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) and Tomczak drew three-straight walks to begin the game. With two away, Adam dropped a single near the left field line driving home a pair of runs for a 2-0 lead.
FSU got on back in the bottom of the first and the Pointers answered right back. Olson led off the second with a double. Oliver singled to put runners at the corners. Baumann lifted a deep sac fly to center to put UWSP up, 3-1.
The Rams got another run the second and the Pointers responded in the top of the third. Argersinger singled with two away. Olson then doubled into the left field corner as Argersinger raced home from first for a 4-2 advantage.
Tyler Soule (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) drew a base on balls to begin the fifth. Adams dropped a sac bunt to move him to second. Argersinger singled to put runners on the corners. Olson hit a sac fly to push home one run. Oliver followed with a double to plate another for a 6-2 lead.
FSU scored one in the fifth, one in the sixth and another in the eighth to get within 6-5. In the top of the ninth, the game was delayed 65 minutes after a brief monsoon drenched the field.
Upon resumption of play,
Trent Van Ess (Two Rivers, Wis./Two Rivers) doubled to start the inning. He stole third and, following a walk to Adams, scored on a balk. With two outs, Olson drew a walk. Oliver singled to drive in a run and a double steal scored another. Baumann singled to plate another and complete the scoring at 10-5.
Casey Pickering (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) earned his second win of the season. He struck out five over 6.0 in the start.
Tyler Beyer (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) fanned two in 2.0 innings of relief.
Sidney Ferry (Paw Paw, Mich./Homeschooled) struck out two in a perfect ninth.
The Pointers return to Wisconsin and head to Fond du Lac on Saturday (March 30) for a twin bill against Marian. First pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m.
