Moline Nets Game-Winner, Pointers Advance to 10th-Straight WIAC Championship Game

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 7 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (20-5-2) got at third-period game-winner from senior Cody Moline (North Branch, Minn.) for a 4-2 win over UW-River Falls (16-10-3) in the WIAC Tournament semifinals (presented by Culver's). The Pointers move on the WIAC Commissioner's Cup final for the 10th-straight year and will host UW-Claire for the sixth time in the last seven seasons.
 
Conor Witherspoon (Metamora, Mich.) opened the scoring in the first period at the 5:00 mark. Noah Finstrom (New Baltimore, Mich.) and Dawson Sciarrino (Greensburg, Pa.) assisted on the play and the Pointers led after one.
 
The Falcons tied the game at 4:16 of the second period and the game remained tied heading to the third period.
 
Fletcher Anderson (Thunder Bay, Ont./Sir William Churchill) put the Pointers back in front just 34 seconds into the third period. Harrison Stewart (Rockford, Ill.) had a helper.
 
UWRF again tied the game at 1:57 of the third period.
 
The game remained knotted at 2-2 until the 12:11 mark. Isaac Moberg (St. Paul, Minn.) won a faceoff in the offensive zone. David Hill (Glen Mills, Pa.) took a shot and Moline tipped it in for the eventual game-winner.
 
Hill added an empty netter at 19:44.9 firing the puck into the net from the defensive zone to seal the win.
 
UWSP goaltender Alex Proctor (Allen, Texas) made 21 saves in the win. UWRF goaltender Dysen Skinner made 30 saves.
 
The Pointers will host their eighth-straight WIAC Tournament final at K.B. Willett Arena on Saturday (March 2). Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Student tickets will be available beginning Monday (Feb. 26) at 8:00 a.m. in person at the Dreyfus University Ticket Office. The first 400 will be free with students given the opportunity to buy up to 100 tickets in section I or standing room only. Season ticket holders have until 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday (Feb. 28) to secure their seats. The remaining tickets will go on sale to the public at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday online at tickets.uwsp.edu, in person at the DUC or by phone at 715-346-4100.
