STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's wrestling team had four wrestlers place at the Pointer Open on Saturday. No team scores were kept.
Results
Logan Neitzel (Lomira, Wis./Lomira) placed second in the 197 bracket. He won by fall in his first match of the day. Then he recorded three-straight major decision wins to reach the final.
Carson Trotzer (Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest) took third in the 174 bracket after going 4-1 on the day. He had two wins by tech fall and another by fall. He got third place with a medical forfeit win.
Riese Thornberry (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) finished fifth in the 141 bracket. He won by tech fall and fall in his first two bouts of the year. He got a major decision win in the quarterfinals. Then in the fifth-place match, he won by forfeit.
Blake Flach (Shell Lake, Wis./Shell Lake) also came in fifth in the 285 bracket. He had three wins by decision and another by major decision.
Cole Steffen (St. Croix Falls, Wis./St. Croix Falls) got a win by fall in the 149 bracket.
Mohammed Abbasov (Waukesha, Wis./South) also pinned an opponent in the 157 bracket.
In the 133 bracket,
Aiden Fonder (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) earned a win by tech fall. Josh Huess and
Mark Jeske (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) won a major decision in the 165 and 174 bracket, respectively.
Joe Kelley (Munising, Mich.) got a 16-10 decision win in the 165 bracket.
The Pointers head to Indiana on Saturday (Nov. 9) for the Trine Invitational. Action begins at 10:00 a.m.
