LA CROSSE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point football team (1-9, 0-7) ended its season with a 56-14 loss at No. 20/21 UW-La Crosse (7-3, 5-2) on Saturday.
Zay Segner (Freeport, Ill./Freeport) led the Pointers' rushing attack with 84 net yards. He ran for a 59-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
Miles Gallagher (Racine, Wis./William Horlick) also had a rushing touchdown.
Gavino Lopez (Dorchester, Wis./Colby) had a team-high eight tackles.
Jack Luedtke (Plymouth, Wis./Plymouth) and
Brock Chadwick (Poynette, Wis./Poynette) had six tackles each.
The Pointers took a 7-0 lead after taking the opening drive 75 yards on 14 plays. Jake Leair hit Gallagher for 16 yards on the drive.
Lucas Milz (South Wayne, Wis./Black Hawk) picked up 30 yards on the ground on four carries. Gallagher capped the drive with a six-yard touchdown run.
UWL scored on the final play of the first quarter to tie the game at 7-7. In the second quarter, the Eagles scored touchdowns on three of their four drives to put UWSP in a 28-7 hole at the half.
UWL scored on the opening drive of the second half and had a scoop-and-score on UWSP's first drive to extend the lead to 42-7.
Segner took over under center on the ensuing drive. He completed a pass for 10 yards. Then had runs of six and 59 yards with the latter going to the house to make it 42-14.
The Eagles scored touchdowns on their next two drives to complete the scoring.
