MADISON, Wis. – The No. 24 UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (17-8) was tied or within a point late in every set, but fell at Edgewood (15-9) in four sets (21-25, 21-25, 25-18, 23-25).
Senior
Ashley Kopp (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) posted yet another double-double, her 13th of the season, with a team-high 14 kills and 13 digs.
Grace Michalske (Wausau, Wis./West) led all players with 35 assists.
Lauren Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) was in double figures with 12 kills.
Tessa Erlandson (Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon Wanamingo) led the Pointers with 22 digs.
Abby Nevins (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) also added double figures of 17 digs.
Sydney Mosinski (Nevada, Iowa/Nevada) had a solo block to put UWSP up 2-0 out of the gate. The host Eagles put up an 8-0 run to drop UWSP into a 9-4 hole. Kopp combined on a pair of blocks, but UWSP trailed 18-11.
Carly Thomka (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) had two kills and a block as the Pointers used a 7-0 burst to get within 20-19. Kopp and Thomka each had a kill, but EC closed the set with a 5-2 run.
Kopp and Mosinski each had a pair of early kills as UWSP was behind 8-7. Thomka had two aces and kill in 7-0 run as UWSP took a 17-16 lead. Mosinski had a late kill as the Pointers were within one at 21-20. Again, EC ended the set with a burst, 4-1.
Four different Pointers had a kill as UWSP took a 6-5 lead. Shaw added three kills as the Pointers went up 12-10. Kopp posted a trio of kills and an Erlandson ace gave UWSP a 20-16 advantage. Kopp had two more late kills as UWSP secured the third set.
Thomka had a kill and a block early as UWSP jumped in front, 3-1. Kopp had two kills in a 5-1 run as UWSP went up 8-4.
Zoe Kramer (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) had a pair of kills and a block as UWSP maintained an 18-15 lead. Erlandson served another ace for a 20-16 lead, but the Eagles closed the set and the match on a 9-3 run.
The Pointers return home to face UW-Oshkosh on Saturday (Oct. 26). The 6:00 p.m. match will be played in Quandt Fieldhouse as the Pointers look to break the DIII attendance record on "Pack the House" night. Tickets available at the door free of charge.
