Pointers Take Third as Altensey, Paladino Win Brackets at Hawk Classic

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The UW-Stevens Point men's wrestling team placed third at the Hawk lassic on Sunday in Alabama. Trystan Altensey (Port Byron, Ill./Riverdale) and Luca Paladino (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) were victorious in their respective brackets.
 
Results
 
Paladino won five matches to go unbeaten en route to winning the 125 bracket. He had two decision wins, a win by tech fall, a win by fall and an opponent medical forfeit. Aidan Fonder won twice in the 125 consolation bracket.
 
Altensey went 3-0 on the day to win the 184 bracket. He won by tech fall in his first match. Then in the semifinals, he won by fall. In the championship bout, Altensey earned a 7-6 decision win.
 
Logan Neitzel (Lomira, Wis./Lomira) finished second in the 197 bracket. He had two decision wins and one major decision victory. Blake Flach (Shell Lake, Wis./Shell Lake) earned one win by decision in the bracket.
 
Josh Heuss (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) went 5-1 on the day to take third in the 165 bracket. He had three decision wins, one by fall and another by medical forfeit. Romer Pugh (Spring Lake Park, Minn./Spring Lake Park) earned two wins in the bracket, one each by fall and major decision.
 
Riese Thornberry (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) finished third in the 149 bracket. He won twice in the championship bracket both by decision. He earned wins by no contest and by forfeit to place third.
 
Cody Weix (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) placed fifth in the 174 bracket. He won four times, twice by fall and once each by decision and forfeit. Bryce Buchanan (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) earned one win by fall in the bracket.
 
Blaze Thurber (Nekoosa, Wis./Nekoosa) took sixth in the 133 bracket. He won three times earning a tech fall, major decision and win by fall.
 
Sam Johnson (Ettrick, Wis./Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau) won twice in the 157 bracket, once each by fall and by decision. Easton Hull (Waupun, Wis./Waupun) earned one win the bracket, by tech fall.
 
Cooper Peterson (Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls) won his opening match in the 141 bracket by tech fall.
 
The Pointers travel to Illinois on Saturday (Jan. 13) for the Al Hanke Invitational. Action in Elmhurst begins at 9:00 a.m.
