MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The No. 8 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (11-3-0) completed a weekend sweep in Minnesota with a 4-2 win at Augsburg (6-5-1) on Saturday night in the Twin Cities.
Conor Witherspoon (Metamora, Mich.) scored his second of the weekend at 16:51 of the first to give UWSP a 1-0 lead.
Cody Moline (North Branch, Minn.) grabbed his first assists of 2024 on the goal.
At 6:39 of the second,
Dawson Sciarrino (Greensburg, Pa.) extended the lead to 2-0 with his first of the season.
Fletcher Anderson (Thunder Bay, Ont./Sir William Churchill) picked up his first point of the night with an assist.
Augsburg got on the board at 15:11 of the second period and UWSP held a one-goal lead heading to the third. The Auggies found an equalizer at 12:28 of the third for a 2-2 tie.
Sean Bunting (Phoenix, Ariz.) gave the Pointers the lead again at the 14:43 mark of the third, the eventual game-winner.
Noah Finstrom (New Baltimore, Mich.) added an assist.
With 33 seconds left, Anderson scored an empty-net goal to seal the win.
Andrew Poulias (Whitby, Ont.) had an assist, his fourth point of the weekend.
Alex Proctor (Allen, Texas) earned the win with 23 saves. Samuel Vyletelka made 31 saves in net for Augsburg.
The Pointers will play Concordia (Minn.) in the first home game of 2024 on Friday (Jan. 12). Puck drop at K.B. Willett is set for 7:00 p.m.
