STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 6 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (15-5-1, 9-2-0) staged its biggest comeback of the season in a 4-3 overtime win over UW-Stout (8-11-2, 6-5-0) on Saturday night.
The visiting Blue Devils posted three goals in the first period with goals at 2:12, 12:07 and 18:02.
UWSP goaltender
Alex Proctor (Allen, Texas) made seven saves in the second period as neither team scored sending the game to the third with UWSP trailing, 3-0.
Brett Humberstone (Kingston, Ont.) got the Pointers on the board at 5:30 of the third period.
Sean Bunting (Phoenix, Ariz.) and
Fletcher Anderson (Thunder Bay, Ont./Sir William Churchill) had assists.
David Hill (Glen Mills, Pa.) got UWSP within one at the 8:03 mark of the third.
Cody Moline (North Branch, Minn.) provided the feed on the goal.
At 18:11 of the third,
Andrew Poulias (Whitby, Ont.) tallied the third of the period to tie the game at 3-3. Fetcher Anderson had another assist on the play.
The game headed to overtime. The Blue Devils made a bad line change and the Pointers took advantage. Moline passed the puck forward and
Harrison Stewart (Rockford, Ill.) took the feed on a 2-on-0 with
Conor Witherspoon (Metamora, Mich.). Stewart took the shot himself and buried the game-winner at 1:29 to complete the comeback.
The Pointers travel to Northland on Friday (Feb. 2) for a weekend series, the final road games of the regular season. Puck drop in Ashland is set for 7:00 p.m.
