STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (5-14-1, 1-7-0) got 32 saves from goaltender
Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy), but No. 10 UW-Eau Claire (16-4-0, 6-1-0) got one past here for a 1-0 win on Saturday.
Neither team scored in the first period as Greige made nine saves. The Pointers out-shot the Blugolds in the opening frame, 11-9, with
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove),
Sara Aadalen (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) and
Alyssa Yokom (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown) with multiple shots each.
The Blugolds broke the scoreless tie at the 9:04 mark of the second period, the eventual game-winner.
Griege posted 12 saves in the second period and 11 more in the third to keep UWSP within a goal.
The Pointers played the final 1:33 of the game with an extra attacker, but were unable to find an equalizer.
UWSP will continue a four-game home stand on Friday (Feb. 2) to begin a weekend series against Northland. Puck drop is slated for 7:00 p.m.
