STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 8 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (12-3-1) posted its first tie of the season, 1-1, against visiting Saint John's (6-8-3) on Saturday night at K.B. Willett Arena.
Noah Finstrom (New Baltimore, Mich.) continued his offensive output with his third goal of the weekend at the 3:09 mark of the first period to give the Pointers the early lead.
Quinton Hill (Coquitlam, B.C.) and
Owen Dean (Calgary, Alberta) got assists on the play.
Later in the first, the Johnnies pulled even at 1-1 with a goal at 14:15. The goaltenders took over from there.
UWSP goaltender
Alex Proctor (Allen, Texas) recorded 29 saves, 14 in the second period and 11 in the third to send the game to overtime. He made two more saves in the extra session to record the tie.
SJU goaltender Bailey Huber had 44 saves in the game, 11 in the second period, 18 in the third and he also had two in overtime.
Mick Heneghan (Niles, Ill.) led all players with seven shots on goal.
Sean Bunting (Phoenix, Ariz.) added five.
The Pointers return to league play with a weekend series at UW-River Falls beginning Friday (Jan. 19) at 7:00 p.m.
