UWSP Volleyball Dominant in Sweep of CUW

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The No. 15 UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (6-0) dispatched of Concordia (Wis.) (1-4) in straight sets for the fourth-straight sweep, 3-0 (25-17, 25-7, 25-17), to open the IWU Tournament I on Friday.
 
Ashley Kopp (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) and Lauren Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) had nine kills each as there were no players in double figures in the match. Ryleigh Zeller (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) had a match-high 11 digs, the lone player in double digits. Grace Michalske (Wausau, Wis./West) led all players with 23 assists.
 
UWSP held the Falcons to a -0.050 hitting percentage, the lowest by an opponent this season.
 
Shaw had a pair of kills and Kopp served an ace in a 7-0 run as UWSP took an 8-2 lead in the first set. Kopp had a trio of kills in a 7-1 spurt as UWSP upped the advantage to 20-11. Shaw sealed the first set win with her sixth kill.
 
The Pointers jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the second set behind two aces by Michalske and a block by Ella Trieloff (Park Ridge, Ill./St. Viator) and Carly Thomka (Muskego, Wis./Muskego). Trieloff, Thomka and Sydney Mosinski (Nevada, Iowa/Nevada) had two kills each as UWSP cruised to the second set victory.
 
Shaw and Kopp had two early kills each as UWSP forged ahead 10-7 in the third. Mosinski had a pair of blocks in a 10-3 run and Kopp had two late kills, including the match-clincher, as UWSP finished the sweep.
 
The Pointers face Mount St. Joseph and host Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday (Sept. 9). Match start times are set for 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
