Women’s Tennis Sweeps SNC, Ripon to Open Season

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team won both matches on opening day by a 9-0 final over visiting St. Norbert and Ripon on Friday at University Courts.
 
Chloe Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) won all four matches she played in on the day. Her singles wins came by 6-4, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-2 scores. She also paired with Brooklynn Steier (West De Pere, Wis./West De Pere) for a pair of 8-3 wins in doubles. Steier won her No. 5 singles match against Ripon by a 6-1, 6-0 final.
 
Jordan Scharf (Wauwatosa, Wis./West) picked up three wins on the day. She won at No. 1 singles against Ripon, 6-3, 6-1. At No. 3 singles versus SNC, she won 6-4, 7-6 (3). She also earned a win in doubles with partner Tristin Jantz (Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) against SNC, 8-2. Jantz earned a 6-1, 6-1 singles win versus SNC.
 
Kyra Hagen also notched three victories on the day.  Her singles wins were by 6-2, 6-1 over SNC and 6-1, 6-0 against Ripon. She combined with Quinlyn Mack (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) for an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles against SNC. Mack won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles versus SNC.
 
Grace Henes (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) went 3-0 on the day as well. She earned singles wins by 6-4, 6-1 and forfeit. In doubles action, she paired with Riley Brower (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) for an 8-0 win. Brower also won a singles match at No. 6 versus Ripon, 6-2, 6-2.
 
Emma Rockweiler (Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg Area) and Jenna Carmean earned the No. 3 doubles win against Ripon, 8-4.
 
The Pointers to action on Sept. 9 with matches at Hamline (11:00 a.m.) and Macalester (3:00 p.m.).
