STEVENS POINT, Wis. – It took three super breakers in singles play to decide the UW-Stevens Point women's tennis home finale. UWSP prevailed in two of those super breakers to get by Edgewood, 5-4.
Barbara Covek (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) added another tally to her school record for wins with a 7-6 (3), 2-6, 13-11 win in the super breaker at No. 4 singles. It was her 35th singles win and 78th overall win for UWSP in her final home match.
Chloe Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) won the other super breaker at No. 6 singles by a 6-4, 5-7, 10-8 final.
Maya Kunze (Stevens Point, Wis./Pacelli) rallied from a 6-2 first set defeat to win the second set, 7-5, at No. 5 singles. In the super breaker, she came up just short in a 13-11 battle.
Tristan Jantz took No. 2 singles by a 6-3, 6-3 score.
Faith Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) won at No. 3 singles by a 6-2, 6-2 final.
In doubles play,
Quinlyn Mack (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) and Jantz got an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles.
The Pointers head to Whitewater on Saturday (April 29) for the WIAC Team Tournament. UWSP faces UW-Eau Claire in the semifinals at 12:00 p.m.
