STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 7 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (19-5-4) learned its first round opponent in the NCAA Tournament as the bracket was announced on Monday morning. UWSP will host Augsburg (16-9-2) on Saturday (March 11) at K.B. Willett Arena at 7:00 p.m.
UWSP secured the WIAC's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament with a 5-1 win over No. 14 UW-Eau Claire on Saturday in the WIAC Commissioner's Cup final. It was the Pointers' ninth-straight time in the title game and fourth championship.
Tickets for Saturday's game go on sale Wednesday (March 8) at 8:00 a.m. Fans can purchase tickets by calling 715-346-4100 or visiting the University Information and Ticket Office in the Dreyfus University Center. The first 300 UWSP students with a valid ID can get a free ticket and those tickets must be picked up in person at the DUC.
The Pointers and Auggies played earlier this season with UWSP taking a 4-0 victory at Willett Arena.
Nick Gonrowski (New Hope, Minn./) scored two goals and
Alex Proctor (Allen, Texas) recorded his first career shutout with 27 saves.
UWSP is 11-1-3 at K.B. Willett Arena this season.
Fletcher Anderson (Thunder Bay, Ont./Sir William Churchill) leads the Pointers in goals (14), points (28) and it tied for the team lead with 14 assists.
The winner advances to the second round and will travel to Adrian on March 18.
