LA CROSSE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (10-12, 3-8) dropped another road game with an 81-58 loss at UW-La Crosse (17-5, 8-3).
Zach Mootz (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) led a quartet of double-figure scorers with 11 points.
Jake Buchanan (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly),
Josiah Gillie (Milwaukee, Wis./West Allis) and
Landon VanCalster (Freedom, Wis./Freedom) each added 10. VanCalster topped the Pointers with seven rebounds.
Gillie scored UWSP first four points, but UWL ran out to an 11-4 lead five minutes in.
AJ Makinen (Waterford, Wis./Muskego) drilled a three and jumpers by VanCalster and Gillie kept UWSP briefly within four. The Eagles posted a 13-1 run for a 28-12 lead.
Makinen buried another three, but UWSP went scoreless the final 5:32 of the half to trail 48-21 after 20 minutes.
Mootz, Buchanan and VanCalster each sunk a three in the second half, but UWSP trailed by a large margin the entire half getting to within 19 midway through.
The Pointers will be home for two of the final three regular season games beginning on Wednesday (Feb. 8) at 7:00 p.m. against UW-River Falls.
