EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Senior
Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) made 48 saves in her UW-Stevens Point women's hockey finale. The Pointers (12-14-1) fell by a 2-0 score in game two of the WIAC Tournament (presented by Culver's) semifinals at UW-Eau Claire (22-3-2).
Schultz made 12 saves in the first period as the teams skated to a scoreless first frame for the second-straight day.
The Blugolds finally solved Schultz for the only time at 16:24 of the second with a power-play goal, the eventual game-winner.
Schultz made 19 total saves in the second period to keep it a one-goal game. She made 16 more saves in the third period before UWSP pulled her for the extra attacker. Just like Friday, the Blugolds put home an empty-netter in the final minute to seal the win.
UWEC goaltender Josie Mathison was tested just seven times in the win. UWSP had seven different player record one shot on goal each.
Schultz's career culminates with a school record 2,794 saves, more than 500 saves more than any other UWSP goaltender. She earned 33 wins in a Pointer sweater, the fourth-most in program history.
