STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 8 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (17-5-4) got eight points from one forward line in a 4-2 win over UW-Stout (17-10-1) in game one of the WIAC Tournament (presented by Culver's) semifinals.
Fletcher Anderson (Thunder Bay, Ont./Sir William Churchill) got UWSP on the board at 4:34 of the first off assists from his line mates
Andrew Poulias (Whitby, Ont./) and
Dawson Sciarrino (Greensburg, Pa./).
After the Blue Devils tied the game in the opening minute of the second period, it was Sciarrino putting UWSP ahead again at 8:01 of the second. Poulias and Anderson had helpers on the play.
Stout again pulled even at 5:39 of the third.
Just past the midpoint of the third period,
Nick Gonrowski (New Hope, Minn./) fired a shot from the blue line that found the back of the net.
Evan Junker (Elk River, Minn./) and
Wilson Northey (North Vancouver, B.C./) picked up assists on the eventual game-winner.
With 1:08 left in regulation, Anderson secured the win with an empty-net goal. His second of the game was assisted on by Sciarrino for the line's combined eight-point night.
UWSP goaltender
Ryan Wagner (Indianapolis, Ind./) made 26 saves in the win. Stout goaltender Tyler Masternak made 38 saves.
The Pointers and Blue Devils will play again on Saturday (Feb. 25) in game two of the semifinals. Puck drop at K.B. Willett Arena is slated for 7:00 p.m.
