OSHKOSH, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (11-14, 3-11) had its worst shooting night of the season in a 69-38 loss to UW-Oshkosh (18-7, 8-6) that ended UWSP's season.
Nine different Pointers got on the scoresheet with
Jamie Pfeifer (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) leading the way with seven points.
Josie Nies (Platteville, Wis./Platteville) added six.
Gabby Gawlitta (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) led UWSP with eight rebounds.
Alexa Thomson (De Pere, Wis./West) hit a three-pointer, but the Titans began the game with a 9-0 run. UWO scored the next 10 points before a free throw by
Kelly McIntyre (Waukesha, Wis./North). Nies made the only other bucket, at the buzzer, as UWSP trailed 24-7 after one.
Gawlitta, McIntyre and Nies combined for an 8-0 UWSP run to get the Pointers within 27-15. A free throw by Pfeifer preceded a 9-0 UWO run as UWSP was down 38-16 at the half.
Gawlitta and Pfeifer combined for six points and UWSP's only two field goals of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter,
Katelyn Slowik (Elcho, Wis./Elcho) scored four-straight UWSP points.
Abbie Campion (Janesville, Wis./Milton) drilled a three as did Emily Morteneson down the stretch.
The loss dropped the Pointers to eighth in the league standings. Thomson led UWSP in scoring on the season as the lone double-figures scoring average.
