UWSP Volleyball Wins Both Matches at Elmhurst Tournament

ELMHURST, Ill. – The No. 20 UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (21-7) won both matches at Saturday's Elmhurst Tournament. The Pointers won 3-1 against Wheaton (9-14) before sweeping host Elmhurst (15-9) by a 3-0 final.
 
Ashley Kopp (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) picked up her 19th double-double of the season in the win over Wheaton. She had 25 kills and 14 digs. Then against Elmhurst, Kopp posted a match-high 19 kills.
 
Sydney Mosinski (Nevada, Iowa/Nevada) had a season-high 14 kills against the Thunder. She posted a season-best seven blocks versus the Bluejays.
 
Grace Michalske (Wausau, Wis./West) led all players in assists in both matches. She had 48 and 32, respectively. Tessa Erlandson (Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon Wanamingo) racked up a match-high 21 digs versus Wheaton. Ryleigh Zeller (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) added 18 digs against the Thunder. The duo had 11 digs each against Elmhurst.
 
UWSP 3, Wheaton 1 (25-19, 25-20, 22-25, 25-13)
Ella Trieloff (Park Ridge, Ill./St. Viator) served consecutive aces and Kopp tallied four kills as UWSP jumped in front, 10-5.Lauren Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) added four kills as the Thunder kept pace at 18-18. Summer Salettel (Beaver Dam, Wis./Beaver Dam) had a kill and a block to cap a 7-1 run by UWSP to end the set.
 
Olivia Paukner (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) had two kills as the Pointers opened the second set up 8-1. Salettel added four kills, but Wheaton worked back to within 22-20 late. Mosinski and Kopp each had a kill to give UWSP a 2-0 lead.
 
Shaw and Mosinski had a kill and block each to give UWSP a 9-8 lead in the third. Mosinski had three late kills as the Thunder took the third set.
 
Mosinski and Kopp had two kills each as UWSP took a 9-4 lead to begin the fourth. Kopp had two kills in a 9-1 run as UWSP doubled up Wheaton, 18-9. Kopp had two more kills and a block as UWSP finished the match in four.
 
UWSP 3, Elmhurst 0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-21)
Shaw and Kopp combined for five kills as UWSP opened with a 9-7 edge. Zeller and Trieloff each served an ace to push the advantage to 14-9. Paukner posted three kills as the lead grew to 20-14. Mosinski added three blocks in a 4-0 burst to finish the first set.
 
Kopp had six kills as the teams battled to a 12-12 tie in the second. Mosinski had a kill and three blocks as the Pointers took the set with an 11-2 run.
 
Michalske and Kopp had three aces each as a 10-1 run gave the Pointers a 12-7 lead in the third. Salettel and Kopp combined for five kills as the set converged at 21-21 late. Mady Hanse (Tomahawk, Wis./Tomahawk) added a kill in a 4-0 run to end the match.
 
The Pointers travel to UW-Eau Claire on Friday (Nov. 3) for the final conference match of the season. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
