Pfeifer, Thomson in Double Figures for Women’s Basketball

MENOMONIE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (11-9, 3-6) had a pair of double-figure scorers in a 71-54 loss at UW-Stout (14-6, 6-3) on Wednesday.

Jamie Pfeifer (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) led the Pointers with 12 points. Alexa Thomson (De Pere, Wis./West) added 11 and led UWSP with six rebounds.

Pfeifer began the game with a three-pointer and Courtney Krueger (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) hit from behind the arc on the next possession for a 6-4 lead early. Thomson scored the next seven UWSP points and the Pointers trailed 20-15 after one.

Pfeifer buried another three as the Pointers kept pace early in the second. Olivia Hoerl (Chilton, Wis./Chilton) drilled a three later in the quarter and UWSP's deficit remained five at the break, 39-34.

Abbie Campion (Janesville, Wis./Milton) made a layup to halt a 9-2 run by the Blue Devils to begin the third. Pfeifer had four late points, including her third three-pointer to end the third as UWSP was down just six heading to the fourth.

Thomson and Josie Nies (Platteville, Wis./Platteville) had early baskets, but UWSP offense got just two points, a Pfeifer jumper, over the final 7:51 of the game as Stout pulled away.

The Pointers return to action next Wednesday (Feb. 1) with a 7:00 p.m. home game against UW-Whitewater.
