STEVENS POINT, Wis. – First-year UW-Stevens Point head football coach
Luke Venne announced the completion of his full-time assistant coaching staff with the hiring of Austin Archer, Trent LaCombe and Chad Redmer. Archer will be the Pointers' offensive coordinator with LaCombe overseeing the defensive line and Redmer coaching wide receivers.
Archer comes to UWSP after a seven-year stint as an assistant coach with Venne at UW-Oshkosh. There, he collaborated with the offensive coordinator and worked with the Titans' offensive line. During his tenure at UWO, Archer helped the Titans set school records for points and rushing yards in a season. Archer coached seven All-American offensive linemen with UWO and the Titans played in the national title game.
Archer spent two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at UWO and two years as a varsity assistant coach for Avon High School in Indiana. He earned his undergraduate degree from Ohio State University in 2010 and a master's degree from UW-Oshkosh in 2014.
LaCombe also comes to UWSP from UW-Oshkosh. He spent a short time as a defensive assistant helping with practice planning, recruiting and film breakdown. He also coached one year with Omro High School as a defensive assistant.
LaCombe played for UW-Oshkosh and led the Titans to two WIAC titles. He was a four-year letterwinner and two-time All-WIAC selection for UWO. In 2017, he played on the defensive line for the Titans in the National Championship Semifinal Game.
Redmer joins the staff after being a member of the Menomonee Falls High coaching staff. He also has experience in the league after playing for UW-Oshkosh as a wide receiver. He started for the Titans in 2016 and 2017 helping UWO reach the title game and semifinals, respectively.
The Pointers open the 2022 campaign at home on Sept. 3 with a 6:00 p.m. kickoff at Goerke Park against Mayville State.
