WHITEWATER, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point softball team (15-11, 0-4) dropped both games of a league doubleheader at UW-Whitewater (12-12, 5-5) on Tuesday. UWSP fell in five innings, 8-0, in game one before a 7-3 defeat in game two.
Makenna Tkach (Streator, Ill./Marquette Academy) had two of UWSP's three RBI on the day.
Sara Traxel (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) had the other and went 3-for-3 in game two.
Meg Lawrence (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) and
Abby Van Beek (Mayville, Wis./Mayville) had two hits apiece, both in game two.
Game 1 – UWSP 0, UWW 8 (5)
Maddie Candre (St. Charles, Ill./East) drew a walk to lead off the game, but remained there to end the inning.
Jenna Eilers (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) and Candre hit back-to-back one-out singles in the third and again UWSP came up empty.
The Warhawks put up six runs in the bottom of the three, all unearned with three hits and three walks in the inning.
In the fourth,
Becca Geiyer (Grayslake, Ill./Warren Township) singled to begin the frame. Traxel drew a walk and, with two outs,
Emmie Cibrario (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) also walked to load the bases, but all three were stranded as the inning ended.
UWW tacked on two runs in the bottom of the fifth to complete the run-rule win.
Game 2 – UWSP 3, UWW 7
Van Beek began game two with a single and made it to second on a sac bunt. Pinch runner
Jayden Prondzinski (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) advanced to third on a groundout and was still there when the inning ended.
After UWW scored twice in the first, Traxel began the second with a double.
Rachel Baker (Richmond, Ill./Richmond-Burton Community) reached on a fielder's choice with one away and both runners scored on Tkach's single to tie the game at 2-2.
The Warhawks scored three runs on three hits in the third and added two more in the sixth for a 7-2 lead.
Van Beek doubled to start the seventh. Lawrence singled and, with one away, Geiyer drew a walk to load the bases. Traxel singled to plate one, but UWSP could get no closer
UWSP's rescheduled home games against UW-Platteville scheduled for Wednesday (April 20) have been postponed. The Pointers will next head to UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (April 23) for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
