OSHKOSH, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (10-9, 3-7) fell at UW-Oshkosh (16-5, 5-4) in league action on Wednesday by a 65-55 final.
Taylor Greenheck (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) led the Pointers with 10 points, one of 11 UWSP players on the scoresheet. Fellow senior
Jessica Slowik (Elcho, Wis./Elcho) added nine, her third-straight game with at least nine points.
Gabby Gawlitta (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) led the Pointers with eight boards.
Anna Schoenike (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) snagged a career-high seven rebounds.
Josie Nies (Platteville, Wis./Platteville) got UWSP even at 2-2 with a jump shot nearly a minute into the game.
Alexa Thomson (De Pere, Wis./West), Greenheck and
Abbie Campion (Janesville, Wis./Milton) made field goals as UWSP fell behind 24-10 after one.
Sierra Raine (Bloomer, Wis./Bloomer) scored more than five minutes into the second quarter to stop an 8-0 UWO run. Slowik and Gawlitta each made a jumper down the stretch as UWSP was in a 36-16 hole at the half.
Schoenike hit four free throws and Nies buried a three as UWSP tried to chip away. Greenheck added eight points in the quarter, but UWSP trailed 57-38 heading to the fourth.
Gawlitta and Slowik each had five points in the fourth quarter as UWSP ended the game on a 15-2 run over the final 8:29.
Julia Hickey (Silver Lake, Wis./Wilmot Union) nailed a three in the closing seconds as the Pointers got within 10.
The Pointers face UW-Eau Claire in the final regular season home game on Saturday (Feb. 12). Tip-off in Berg Gym is set for 3:00 p.m.
