STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 3 UW-Oshkosh Titans pulled away early in a 79-58 win over the UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (3-14, 0-10) on Wednesday in league action.
Senior
Garrett Nelson (Beaver Dam, Wis./Beaver Dam) led UWSP with 12 points, his 15th game of the year in double figures.
Jake Buchanan (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) was also in double figures with 11, his 6th double-digit performance since joining the team.
Brennan Timm (West Bend, Wis./West) led UWSP with eight rebounds. He just missed double figures with nine points.
Brady Wagner (Lake Mills, Wis./Lake Mills) hit a pair of three and had eight points.
Nelson made layups on consecutive possessions as the Pointers tied the game at 2-2 and 4-4. Timm and
Darrius Bolden (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet) each made a field goal, but UWO posted 18 points during the span for a 22-8 lead midway through the first half.
AJ Makinen (Waterford, Wis./Muskego) drilled a three and Buchanan had nine points the remainder of the half as UWSP was behind 41-23 at the half.
Bolden had four points early in the second half, but the Titans extended the lead to 28 with 13:59 remaining. Wagner hit back-to-back triples as UWSP went on an 8-0 run.
Peter Timmerman (Dubuque, Iowa/Wahlert Catholic) and Timm each hit a three down the stretch as the Pointers could only get within 17.
UWSP hits the road for the final regular season away game on Saturday (Feb. 12) at UW-Eau Claire. Tip-off is slated for 5:00 p.m.
