RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (11-10, 4-8) fell by a 71-58 final at UW-River Falls (11-11, 4-9) in the regular season finale.
Taylor Greenheck (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) and
Alexa Thomson (De Pere, Wis./West) were both in double figures with 13 points apiece. Greenheck also led UWSP with eight rebounds.
Greenheck drilled a three early to give UWSP its only lead at 3-2.
Jamie Pfeifer (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) made UWSP's only other field goal of the quarter with three minutes remaining as the Pointers fell behind 13-8 after one.
Pfeifer,
Josie Nies (Platteville, Wis./Platteville) and Thomson made field goals on consecutive possessions as UWSP got within three at 17-14.
Gabby Gawlitta (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) and
Sierra Raine (Bloomer, Wis./Bloomer) each made field goals in the quarter, but UWSP was behind 33-24 at the half.
Pfeifer began UWSP's scoring in the third quarter. Raine hit back-to-back field goals and had six points in the frame, but UWRF grew the lead to 51-40 heading to the fourth.
Greenheck and Thomson each nailed a three-pointer early in the fourth. Thomson nailed another triple but UWSP was unable to chip away at the deficit. Gawlitta hit a jumper in the final minute to snap a three minute drought from the field as UWRF held off the Pointers.
The Pointers will play on Friday (Feb. 18) in the first round of the WIAC Tournament (presented by Culver's). Location, opponent and start time will be determined and announced shortly.
