Men’s Basketball Stumbles Out of the Gate in Home Blowout

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (3-16, 0-12) fell behind early and the game was never close in a 94-53 home loss to UW-River Falls (13-9, 6-7).

Brennan Timm (West Bend, Wis./West) led the Pointers with 11 points. Darrius Bolden (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet) was also in double figures with a season-high 10 points. Elijah Vander Velden (Huntington, Ind./Wabash) led UWSP with seven rebounds.

The Falcons jumped out to a 9-0 lead before Timm got UWSP on the board with an and-one nearly two minutes into the game. Jake Buchanan (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) drilled a three and Bolden had four points, but UWRF poured it on for a 41-10 lead with 8:53 left in the first half.

Bolden added four more points before halftime as UWSP was behind 55-22 at the break.

Zach Mootz (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) and Timm scored six-straight points to begin the second half. Peter Timmerman (Dubuque, Iowa/Wahlert Catholic), Buchanan and Brady Wagner (Lake Mills, Wis./Lake Mills) each hit from behind the arc in the second half. Bolden had a late bucket to reach double figures.

The Pointers will head on the road to open the WIAC Tournament (presented by Culver's) on Friday (Feb. 18). Location, opponent and start time will be announced shortly.
