STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's wrestling team hosted its annual Pointer Open on Saturday.
Results
Luca Paladino (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) won five matches to take third in the 125 bracket. He began the day with a fall, decision win and sudden victory. Then in the consolation bracket, he won twice by decision.
Brandon Peckham (Plainfield, Wis./Tri-County) finished fourth in the 165 bracket. He won four matches, all by decision, and nearly reached the bracket finals except for a sudden victory defeat in the semifinals.
Blaze Thurber (Nekoosa, Wis./Nekoosa) won twice on the day and took fifth in the 133 bracket. He won by major decision and fall to start the day. Then in the consolation bracket, he was awarded fifth place by medical forfeit.
Trystan Altensey (Port Byron, Ill./Riverdale) came in fifth in the 184 bracket. He won three times, two by major decision and his first of the day by fall. Logan Neitzel finished second in the consolation bracket after two wins by fall there.
Cooper Peterson (Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls) won three times in the 141 bracket all coming by decision.
Josh Heuss (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) won twice by fall and earned a sudden victory in the 174 bracket.
In the 157 bracket, Nick Lattery won three times, once by fall and twice by decision.
Kyle Smith (Madison, Wis./LaFollette) and
Alex Gundrum (Lomira, Wis./Lomira) won by decision and fall, respectively, in the consolation bracket.
Mohammed Abbasov (Waukesha, Wis./South) earned a win by fall in the consolation bracket at 149. Cody Weix won by fall in the 197 consolation bracket as did
Ben Gunderson (Shiocton, Wis./Shiocton) in the 285 consolation bracket.
UWSP travel to the Adrian Duals next Saturday (Nov. 12) with action starting at 10:00 a.m. ET.
