Early Woes End UWSP Women’s Soccer Tournament Run

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (7-9-4) saw its season come to an end with a 4-0 defeat at No. 13 UW-La Crosse (18-1-1) in Thursday's semifinal round of the WIAC Tournament (presented by Culver's).
 
The Pointers conceded a penalty kick less than two minutes into the match and the Eagles converted. UWL scored again in the 12th minute to make it 2-0.
 
UWSP came out battling though, senior Shea-Lynn Gerred (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) had her first of two shots on goal just over a minute into the match. Fellow senior Kati Frierdich (Neenah, Wis./Winneconne) tested the UWL keeper in the eighth minute.
 
In the 33rd minute, the Eagles struck again to put the Pointers in a 3-0 hole. Frierdich and fellow senior Mackenzie Jones (The Woodlands, Texas/Tomball) added three more shots on goal before the half to no avail.
 
UWL scored its fourth of the match in the 70th minute to close out the scoring. UWSP goalkeeper Miranda Nieman (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) made six saves in the loss. UWL goalkeepers McKenna Lloyd and Robin Blair had eight saves in the combined shutout.
 
Nieman ends her career with 22 wins and 248 career saves. Frierdich concludes her career with 23 goals, 57 points and seven game-winners.
