Pointers Wrestling Competes at CUW Open

MEQUON, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's wrestling team won 21 matches at the Concordia University Wisconsin Open on Saturday.
 
Results
 
Luca Paladino (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) went 4-2 in the 125 bracket to finish runner-up to the consolation champion. He began the day with a 7-6 decision win. Then he posted consecutive tech fall wins in the consolation bracket. He won an 11-7 decision to reach the consolation championship match.
 
Trystan Altensey (Port Byron, Ill./Riverdale) placed fifth in the 184 bracket. He won by fall late (6:46) in his first match of the day. He then won 3-2 and 4-2 decisions before taking fifth with a medical forfeit. Logan Neitzel (Lomira, Wis./Lomira) won an 18-1 tech fall in the consolation bracket.
 
The Pointers got seven wins from three different wrestlers in the 197 bracket. Jack Callen (Portage, Wis./Portage) won by fall in his first match of the day. Blake Flach (Shell Lake, Wis./Shell Lake) and Cody Weix (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) each earned three wins in the consolation bracket. Flach won twice by fall and a 13-2 major decision. Weix had two wins by tech fall and a 10-0 major decision.
 
Brandon Peckham (Plainfield, Wis./Tri-County) earned two wins in the 165 bracket. He won by fall at 1:06 in his first match of the day. Later, he picked up a 10-0 major decision in the consolation bracket.
 
Blaze Thurber (Nekoosa, Wis./Nekoosa) earned an 11-3 major decision in the consolation bracket at 133. Cooper Peterson (Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls) earned a win by fall in the 141 consolation bracket. At 157, Nick Lattery (Ramsey, Minn./Coon Rapids) earned a win by fall in the opening round.
 
UWSP hosts UW-Oshkosh in a conference dual on Dec. 1. Action starts at 7:00 p.m. in Berg Gym.
