BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (1-1) got a double-double from
Brennan Timm (West Bend, Wis./West) in an 80-47 win over Webster (0-2) at the Jack Sikma HOF Invitational.
Timm led all scorers and posted a career-high 20 points. He added 12 rebounds, tying a career-high, for his second double-double of his career.
Myles Coleman (Milwaukee, Wis./Brookfield Central) added 14 points with
Josiah Gillie (Milwaukee, Wis./West Allis),
Jake Buchanan (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) and
Ryan Genrich (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) also in double figures with 12, 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Timm snapped a 7-0 start by Webster with a layup just under four minutes into the game. He and Coleman combined for UWSP's first 11 points as UWSP pulled even at 11-11. Gillie gave UWSP the lead with four points at 15-13 midway through the first half.
Coleman buried a three and followed up with a layup to spark UWSP to a 12-2 run and a 32-20 lead. Buchanan and Timm made three-pointers during the run. The duo each scored late as the Pointers took a 36-25 lead to break.
Buchanan scored four early points and Genrich drilled a three as UWSP opened the second half on a 10-2 run. Genrich it again from behind the arc as the lead grew to 15 at 50-35.
Logan VanCalster hit a three pointer for his first collegiate points with 5:05 remaining.
Blake Kortz (Freedom, Wis./Freedom) and
Jason Larson (Mount Horeb, Wis./Mount Horeb) also scored their first points in a Pointers uniform late.
The Pointers will play in the championship game of the Sikma HOF Invitational at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday (Nov. 13) against host Illinois Wesleyan.
