SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The No. 14 UW-Stevens Point volleyball team's run in the NCAA Tournament came to an end in the Regional Semifinal in a 3-0 loss to host No. 4 University of Northwestern (32-2).
Ashley Kopp (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) recorded her 26th double-double of the season, and second straight in this week's NCAA Tournament. She had 10 kills and 11 digs for the Pointers (26-8).
Olivia Paukner (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) tied Kopp for the team-lead with 10 kills.
Sydney Mosinski (Nevada, Iowa/Nevada) added nine kills.
Emma Peterson (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) recorded 20 digs in her UWSP finale. She concludes her career with exactly 2,200 digs, the second-most in school history.
Grace Michalske (Wausau, Wis./West) had 32 assists to bring her season total to 1,242, the sixth highest single season total. It moved her career total to 2,173, the sixth most in program history.
Kopp served up all three of her aces in a 6-0 run by UWSP to gain an 8-7 edge in the first. Mosinski had a block and kill and
Katie Larson (Hammond, Wis./St. Croix Central) capped another 6-0 burst with an ace for a 17-14 lead. A
Melanie Meyer (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) kill late gave UWSP a 23-22 lead. Mosinski thwarted two set points with kills, but UWSP dropped the first set, 27-25.
Paukner had four kills early in the second set, but UWSP trailed 15-9. Mosinski had two kills and block to get UWSP within 19-15. Three late kills by Paukner weren't enough as the Eagles took the second, 25-20.
Kopp had four early kills in the third, but UNW jumped ahead 16-7. Meyer added two late kills as UWSP dropped the third set, 25-15.
The Pointers reached the NCAA Tournament second round for the fifth time in the last six trips. Kopp ends the season with 574 kills, the third-highest single season total, and her career total of 1,074 is seventh in school history.
