STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's wrestling team came up short in a season-opening 33-3 loss to visiting UW-Eau Claire.
Luca Paladino (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) got UWSP's lone victory on the night at 125. He earned a 3-1 decision victory.
Ben Gunderson (Shiocton, Wis./Shiocton) dropped a close 3-2 decision at 285.
Trystan Altensey (Port Byron, Ill./Riverdale) earned four points in a 9-4 defeat at 184.
Mohammed Abbasov (Waukesha, Wis./South) was on the short end of a 7-2 decision at 149.
Brandon Peckham (Plainfield, Wis./Tri-County),
Josh Heuss (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) and
Cooper Peterson (Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls) went the distance in decision defeats at 165, 174 and 141, respectively.
UWSP will host the Pointer Open on Saturday (Nov. 5) with a 9:00 a.m. start time in the Skyward Fieldhouse.
