Comer Drives in Three in Non-Conference Split for Pointers

OSHKOSH, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (26-9) got three RBI from Bradley Comer (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) to split Saturday's non-conference doubleheader at UW-Oshkosh (19-14).  The Pointers came up short in game one, 4-2, before a rally to win game two, 3-1.

Comer had three hits on the day, including a double in each game.  He drove in one and scored a run in game one.  In game two, his two-run double gave UWSP a lead that wouldn't be relinquished.

Payton Nelson (Wausau, Wis./West) had three hits in game one, coming up a home run shy of hitting for the cycle.  He scored a run in game one as well.

Lucas Luedtke (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) and Quin Henwood (Appleton, Wis./North) each had two hits on the day.  Luedtke's both came in game one.  Henwood had a hit in each game and scored a run in game two.

Game 1 – UWSP 2, UWO 4
Nelson singled with two away in the third inning and moved to second on a failed pickoff.  Bradley Comer (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) followed with an RBI single to put UWSP in front, 1-0.

The Titans took the lead in the bottom of the third with a walk, hit batter and two hits for a 3-1 edge.

Comer doubled to begin the sixth inning.  Lucas Luedtke (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) singled to center and Comer scored on a fielding error as UWSP got within 3-2.

Nelson led off the eighth with a triple down the right field line.  He was stranded there as UWSP's attempt to tie the game was unsuccessful.  UWO got a run in the bottom of the eighth for a much needed insurance run.

In the ninth, Kyle Finger (Clintonville, Wis./Clintonville) led off with a single.  Jakob Boos (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) followed with a walk, but UWSP was unable to get either run home in the frame.

Nick Paulsen (Balsam Lake, Wis./Unity) went 7.0 in the start.  He had three strikeouts and scattered five hits. Tyler Beyer (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) struck out on in an inning of relief.

Game 2 – UWSP 3, UWO 1
UWSP starting pitcher Nathan Krommenakker (Rudolph, Wis./Lincoln) began the game with 4.0 frames on no-hit ball.  The Titans got their first hit in the fifth and a trio of bases on balls gave UWO a 1-0 lead.

Jacob Lillge (Little Chute, Wis./Little Chute) got the Pointers' first hit to lead off the sixth.  Aaron Simmons (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) drew a one-out walk.  Then with two down, Comer ripped a double to right-center to give UWSP a 2-1 edge.

Two UWO errors in the ninth coupled with a Henwood hit let the Pointers add to the lead, 3-1.

Krommenakker went 5.0 with three strikeouts.  He allowed just two hits.  Austin Syvertson (Randolph, Wis./Randolph) struck out two in the final 2.2 to pick up the save.  He stranded the bases loaded in the seventh as UWSP clung to a one-run lead.

The Pointers host UW-Platteville on Wednesday (May 12) in the final home games of the season.  First pitch at Zimmermann Field is set for 1:00 p.m.
