Finger Racks Up Seven RBI in Pointers’ Split at UWO

OSHKOSH, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (23-8, 18-4) split a league doubleheader at UW-Oshkosh (18-11, 15-7) on Tuesday.  The Pointers prevailed with a 7-3 win in game one.  The Titans rallied from behind for an 8-5 win in game two.
 
Kyle Finger (Clintonville, Wis./Clintonville) had three hits. Including his fourth home run of the year. He drove in seven on the day. 
 
Bradley Comer (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) had two hits in each game.  Tommy Duddleston (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle Institute) had four hits on the day and Lucas Luedtke (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) collected three hits.
 
Game 1 – UWSP 7, UWO 3
UWO went ahead in the bottom of the first on a one-out, two-run home run and held the lead until the fourth inning.
 
Comer singled with one away in the fourth.  Quin Henwood (Appleton, Wis./North) and Matt Baumann (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) drew consecutive two-out walks to load the bases.  Finger followed with a two-RBI single to tie the game at 2-2.
 
Duddleston led off the fifth with a double.  Two batters later, Payton Nelson (Wausau, Wis./West) singled to put UWSP in front.  With two down, Luedtke ripped an RBI double to put UWSP ahead, 4-2.
 
Duddleston drove in a two-out run in the sixth as UWSP capitalized on a Titans' error to make it 5-2.
 
Comer singled with one out in the ninth and moved to second on a wild pitch.  Henwood hit a double to plate Comer.  Baumann followed with an RBI single as UWSP went up, 7-3.
 
Casey Pickering (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) tossed 7.0 in the start to earn the win.  He struck out nine and did not walk a batter.  Sidney Ferry (Paw Paw, Mich./Homeschooled) earned his third save in four outings with 2.0 scoreless to end the game.  He struck out two.
 
Game 2 – UWSP 5, UWO 8
The Titans plated three runs on five hits in the first inning to put UWSP down early.
 
The deficit didn't' last long as Henwood was hit by a pitch to begin the second.  Baumann walked and Finger promptly tied the game with a three-run home run to left.
 
Luedtke doubled with one out in the third.  After a Baumann walk, Finger drove a double to left to push home both runs for a 5-3 lead.
 
The Titans chipped away with one run in the fourth.  UWO scored two in the fifth to take the lead and added single tallies in the sixth and the seventh.
 
The Pointers had runners on in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings, but were held without a run in all three frames.
 
The Pointers and Titans tangle at Zimmermann Field in conference action on Friday (May 7). First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
