STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point softball team (15-10, 2-4) hit three home runs, but were swept by visiting UW-Whitewater (15-7, 5-3) on Tuesday. The Pointers lost game one by a 7-4 final before dropping game two, 8-3.
Becca Geiyer (Grayslake, Ill./Warren Township) recorded four hits on the day with a walk. She scored three runs and had two stolen bases.
Lauren Luedtke (Lomira, Wis./Lomira),
Sara Traxel (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) and
Rachael Wakefield (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) each hit a home run in game one, accounting for all four runs. Luedtke hit safely in both games with three combined hits.
Game 1 – UWSP 4, UWW 7
Luedtke hit the first pitch she saw in the bottom of the first out to right field for her first home run of the season.
In the second inning, Geiyer singled with one down. Two batters later, Wakefield lasered a home run over the fence in left for a 3-0 UWSP advantage.
Long balls got UWW on the board in the fourth and the Warhawks took a 4-3 lead on another in the fifth.
Traxel knotted the game at 4-4 with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth with two outs.
The game remained tied until the seventh when UWW put up three runs on three hits to take game one.
Makenna Tkach (Streator, Ill./Marquette Academy) pitched 5.1 innings with four strikeouts.
Game 2 – UWSP 3, UWW 8
The Warhawks took a 5-0 lead in the top of the first on five hits.
Luedtke singled with one down in the bottom of the first. Traxel drew a walk with two away and
Madi Greenaberg (Downers Grove, Ill./North) followed with an RBI single to get UWSP on the board.
The teams traded runs in the second with the Pointers scoring on singles by Geiyer and
Maddie Candre (St. Charles, Ill./East).
UWW tacked on single runs in the third and sixth innings for an 8-2 lead.
Geiyer singled again with one out in the sixth.
Allie Meyers (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) drew a walk. Then with two down, Candre came through with an RBI single, but UWSP couldn't generate any more runs in the loss.
MacKenzie Honish (Oconto, Wis./Oconto) was solid in relief with 3.0 frames of one-hit ball. She struck out two.
The Pointers continue the homestand with a twin bill against UW-Oshkosh on Thursday (April 22). First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
