LA CROSSE, Wis. – For the first time since the 2013 season, the UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team (5-3, 2-3) earned a point against UW-La Crosse (8-3, 4-1) coming up short in an 8-1 loss.
UWSP's No. 3 doubles duo of
Kaitlyn Hess (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) and
Grace Henes (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) won a hard-fought 8-7 victory.
Senior
Anna Dobbe (La Crosse, Wis./Onalaska Luther) nearly forced a super tiebreaker at No. 6 singles. After dropping set 1, 6-1, she came close with a 7-6 (0) final in set two.
Leah Hollander (Portage, Wis./Portage) won six games in a 6-4, 6-2 final at No. 5 singles.
Jenna Koepp (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) won five games at No. 2 singles with a final of 6-1, 6-4.
Faith Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) won two games at No. 3 singles.
Barbara Covek (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and Hess picked up one game victory at No. 1 singles and No. 4 singles.
Covek and Koepp fell at No.1 doubles, 8-3.
Chloe Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) and
Faith Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) dropped the No. 2 doubles by an 8-1 final.
The Pointers host UW-Stout on Saturday (April 17) in the home and conference finale. Action at University Courts starts at 12:00 p.m.
