Long Balls, Big Innings Power Pointers to Sweep of Titans

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (4-2) hit four home runs and had five multi-run innings to complete a sweep of UW-Oshkosh (2-4) on Monday.  The Pointers rolled to an 11-1 run-rule win in game one and took game two by a 7-2 final.

Aaron Simmons (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) had three hits on the day, including a pair of home runs.  He drove in four runs and scored three times.  Bradley Comer (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) had two hits in each game.  He also hit a home run, drove in four and had three runs scored.

Game 1 – UWSP 11, UWO 1 (7)
Comer broke a scoreless tie with a leadoff home run to left, his first of the year.  Connor Flanagan (Rolesville, N.C.) drew a walk and moved to second on a sac bunt.  Two batters later, Simmons belted a two-run shot to right for a 3-0 lead.

After the Titans put a run on the board in the top of the sixth, UWSP got back at it.  Kyle Finger (Clintonville, Wis./Clintonville) hit a one-out single and moved to third on a Matt Baumann (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) double.  Both runners scored as Comer doubled to left-center.  Two batters later, Jakob Boos (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) doubled to plate Comer.  After a UWO error allowed another run to score, Simmons blasted a two-run home run to right, his second of the game and third of the year.

In the bottom of the seventh, Lucas Luedtke (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) drew a leadoff walk.  Finger followed with a walk and the first run of the inning came home on a Titans' error.  Flanagan capped the walk-off run-rule win with a sac fly.

Casey Pickering (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) started and went 3.0 with a strikeout and just two hits against.  Zack Haupt (Carlsbad, Calif./San Dieguito Academy) tossed 2.1 with three strikeouts.  Austin Syvertson (Randolph, Wis./Randolph) pitched a hitless final 1.2 with a strikeout.

Game 2 – UWSP 7, UWO 2
