WAUWAUTOSA, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point softball team (9-4) scored four times in the first inning en route to a 7-1 win at Wisconsin Lutheran College (5-3) on Monday.
Freshman
Jessie Davidenko (Plainfield, Ill./North) and junior
Madi Greenaberg (Downers Grove, Ill./North) each had a hit and two runs batted in. Senior
Sammy Buerger (Oshkosh, Wis./North) and sophomore
Sara Traxel (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) had two hits apiece and each scored a run.
The Pointers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first. Buerger and
Lauren Luedtke (Lomira, Wis./Lomira) hit back-to-back one-out doubles to score the first run. Two batters later,
Maddie Candre (St. Charles, Ill./East) drew a walk and promptly stole second. Greenaberg followed with a two-RBI infield single. Davidenko closed out the four-run inning with a run-scoring single to center.
Traxel started the third with single and Candre was hit by a pitch. Both runners advanced into scoring position on a sac bunt by Greenaberg. Davidenko drove in a run with a sac fly to center. Freshman
Kally VanLaanen (Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon) singled to up UWSP's advantage to 6-0.
Becca Geiyer (Grayslake, Ill./Warren Township) led off the fourth with a single to right. She moved all the way to third on a sac bunt and an error. Buerger followed with a sac fly.
The Warriors got on the board in the bottom of the fourth after a leadoff double advanced on consecutive outs.
Makenna Tkach (Streator, Ill./Marquette Academy) picked up her fifth victory of the year with 5.0 solid innings. She struck out four and scattered three hits.
MacKenzie Honish (Oconto, Wis./Oconto) tossed the final 2.0 frames with a pair of strikeouts.
The Pointers travel to Minnesota on Wednesday (March 24) for a twin bill against St. Benedict. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
