Women’s Hockey Caps 2021 with Record-Setting 7-1 Win At Lawrence

APPLETON, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (5-7-0) closed out 2021 with a 7-1 win at Lawrence (0-10-0) on Friday.  The Pointers fired a program record 69 shots on net in the win and Nicole Neuberger (Minnetrista, Minn./Orono) set a school record with 13 shots on goal.
 
The Pointers opened the scoring just 3:50 into the game as Annika Horman (Appleton, Wis./North) netted the first of three power-play tallies in the period.  Neuberger had an assist, one of three points on the night.
 
Katie Stanius (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) pushed the lead to 2-0, the eventual game-winner, at the 7:05 mark.  Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) and Dani Heitsman (Janesville, Wis./Rock County Fury) had helpers on the play. 
 
In the final minute of the period, Sara Aadalen (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) buried a feed from Laina Berthiaume (South Haven, Minn./Hutchinson) for the 3-0 advantage.
 
Gina Magro (Tower Lakes, Ill./Barrington) scored at 8:52 of the second period for a 4-0 lead. Ashtyn Wiltscheck (Sleepy Eye, Minn./New Ulm) got an assist on the goal.
 
Neuberger was the goal scorer as UWSP took a 5-0 lead at 13:24 of the second period.  Berthiaume added her second assist of the night.
 
Leising grabbed her first career multi-point game with a goal at 11:17 of the third period.  Neuberger picked up her third point on an assist and Kayla Stumo (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) added an assist.
 
Just over a minute later, Ali Granovsky (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville) gave UWSP a 7-0 lead.  Lauren Wincentsen (Wausau, Wis./West) was the 12th Pointers to record a point with an assist on the play.
 
The Vikings avoided the shutout with a power-play goal with 1:37 remaining to complete the scoring.
 
Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) needed to make just 14 saves in the win.  LU goaltenders Sydney Seeler and Charlie Prior combined for 62 saves.
 
The Pointers and Vikings ring in the new year at Ice Hawks Arena on Saturday (Jan. 1) in the second half of the home-and-home series.  Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. and all fans will be admitted free.
