STEVENS POINT, Wis. –
Connor Scahill (Port Huron, Mich.) scored a shorthanded goal with 2:14 left in regulation to break a 2-2 tie as the No. 11 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (3-2-0) got a 4-2 win over visiting Saint John's (1-3-1) on Friday.
It took the Pointers just 30 seconds to take a 1-0 lead on
Brandon McReynolds' (North Vancouver, B.C.) team-leading third goal of the season. The Johnnies equalized at he 2:12 mark of the first.
Noah Finstrom (New Baltimore, Mich.) notched his first career goal at 14:26 of the first period to put UWSP back in front.
The Pointers lead lasted until 4:21 into the third period when SJU tied the game again at 2-2.
Scahill untied the game with a shorthanded tally late in the third on an assist from
Carter Roo (Champlin, Minn.). Roo scored his own shorthanded goal 29 seconds later to complete the scoring.
Ryan Wagner (Indianapolis, Ind.) picked up the victory with 23 saves. SJU goaltender Michael Magnuson made 33 saves.
The Pointers complete the non-conference weekend at home on Saturday (Nov. 13) with a 7:00 p.m. contest against Bethel.
