UWSP Outpaced by UWRF in Homecoming Defeat

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point football team (2-3, 0-2) couldn't contain the speed displayed by visiting UW-River Falls (4-1, 1-1) in a 56-20 loss in the Homecoming game on Saturday.

Jeremy Kobe (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet) scored his first collegiate touchdown, one of a team-high six catches for the freshman.  Joe Aguilera (Dorchester, Wis./Abbotsford) rumbled for a 72-yard touchdown, one of his five catches for 114 yards in the game.

Max Herro (Dousman, Wis./Kettle Moraine) completed 16 of 27 pass attempts for 188 yards and a touchdown.  Trey Schroeder (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) spelled him for a series hitting Aguilera for the 72-yard strike.

Despite Kameron Kryzanski's (Thorp, Wis./Thorp) game-high 18 tackles, the Falcons blazed through UWSP's defense for the tune of 278 yards in the air and 305 on the ground.  The Pointers ran for just 65 yards.

UWRF needed just five plays in the opening drive to find the end zone.  Herro in turn, led the Pointers down the field on a nine play drive capped by a four-yard scamper by Jahi Stigall (Chicago, Ill./DePaul College Prep) to tie the game at 7-7.

The Falcons scored touchdowns on each of their next four drives to take a commanding 35-7 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The onslaught continued as UWRF found the end zone again on the Falcons' first offensive drive of the third quarter.

Later in the third, Herro hit Kobe for a 35-yard touchdown, but a penalty took the score off the board.  Herro continued to persevere completing three straight, including a 27-yard connection with Kobe for a touchdown.

Midway through the fourth quarter, Schroeder hit Aguilera for a 72-yard touchdown, but it was too little too late.

The Pointers now hit the road for a rematch with UW-Stout.  Kickoff in Menomonie is set for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 16).
