Early Deficit Dooms Women’s Soccer in Regular Season Finale

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (8-10-0, 4-3-0) was unable to climb out of an early hole in a 2-1 setback to UW-Stout (11-7-1, 3-4-0) in the regular season finale on Saturday.

The Blue Devils posted two goal in the first 15 minutes of play to put the Pointers behind early.

Just 1:21 into the second half, the Pointers had a chance to pull one back.  The Pointers were awarded a penalty kick and Mara Gustafson (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) stepped to the spot.  Her attempt was saved keeping the Pointers off the board.

In the 75th minute, UWSP finally broke through.  Sophia Reddan (Madison, Wis./West) set up McKenzie Johnson (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) for her second goal of the season as UWSP got within one.

UWSP forced UW-Stout goalkeeper Haley Vokaty to make four more saves in regulation, but were unable to find an equalizer.

Vokaty made eight saves for the win.  UWSP goalkeeper Miranda Nieman (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) had six saves.

The Pointers and Blue Devils will meet again on Tuesday (Nov. 2) at Point Soccer Bowl for the WIAC Tournament quarterfinals. Kick is set for 2:00 p.m.
