Pointers Open Weekend in Illinois With Sweep of Alma

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The No. 21 UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (21-6) opened its weekend in Illinois with a straight-sets win over Alma (1-16) at the Holiday Inn Express Classic III.
 
Grace Michalske (Wausau, Wis./West) racked up a double-double with 29 assists and 10 digs.  Ashley Kopp (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) led all players with 15 kills and was just shy of her own double-double with nine digs.
 
Emma Peterson (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) led all players with 17 digs in the match.  Megan Schroder (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) tied a career high with three kills.
 
Megan Lau (Potter, Wis./Hilbert) and Kopp recorded kills and Michalske served up an ace as UWSP was off to a 3-0 start.  Kopp added another kills and served an ace for an 11-5 lead.  The Pointers posted five-point and seven-point runs to roll to a 25-14 opening set win.
 
Kelsie Belfiori (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) served up consecutive aces as UWSP rebounded for a 4-0 hole early.  Peterson added consecutive aces in a 5-0 run as the Pointers took the lead, 9-5.  Schroder racked up consecutive kills for a 14-9 advantage, but Alma scored seven-straight to regain the lead.  Kopp and Guresi Mena (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) combined for back-to-back blocks for set point and Kopp finished the 25-22 set win with a kill.
 
Abby Neutz (Annandale, Minn./Annandale), Reis Derousseau (Tomah, Wis./Tomah), Sophia Lee (Lake Mills, WIs./Lake Mills) and Kopp combined for seven kills as UWSP started the third set up 9-1.  Sydney Mosinski (Nevada, Iowa/Nevada) added three kills and a block as the Pointers closed the match with a 25-16 win in set three.
 
The Pointers wrap up the weekend and the regular season road slate on Saturday (Oct. 23) with a 10:30 a.m. match versus Augustana and a 1:00 p.m. match against host Illinois Wesleyan.
