University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point Athletics

UW-Stevens Point had its women's soccer season end in the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament for the fourth straight year as the Pointers fell to the University of Chicago 4-0 on Saturday in Chicago.
    
The Pointers entered the match with a nine-match winning streak and had allowed a total of three goals over the span. UW-Stevens Point finishes the season at 16-5-1 overall and made its eighth straight NCAA tournament appearance.
    
Chicago, last year's national runner-up, took an early 1-0 lead when All-American forward Renee Neuner scored 15 minutes into the match for her 19th goal of the season. The lead stood through the rest of the first half before the Maroons added a second score on a goal by Elise Aiken eight minutes into the second half.
    
Trailing by two goals, the Pointers pushed their offense forward and surrendered two late goals in the final nine minutes. UW-Stevens Point gave Chicago an own goal and then Marianna Kerppola finished the scoring with 3:28 left in the match. It was the most goals the Pointers have ever allowed in 21 NCAA tournament matches.
    
The 15th-ranked Maroons held a 21-5 advantage in shots and Meredith DeCaluwe (Naperville, Ill./Central) made six saves while suffering her first career loss after taking over at the start of the nine-match win streak.
    
It was the final match for six Pointer seniors: Melissa Becker (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander), Megan Frey (Wauwatosa, Wis./East), Mollie Kreibich (Plymouth, Wis./Plymouth), Kim Reese (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH), Tara Schmitt (Brookfield, Wis./Catholic Memorial) and Alyssa Souza (Madison, Wis./Memorial), who leave the program with a 67-12-6 record over the past four seasons.
