WESTFIELD, Ind. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (1-2) snapped its losing streak with a 3-2 victory over Benedictine (0-3) to close out opening weekend.
 
Aaron Simmons (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) had two RBI and scored the winning run.  Lucas Luedtke (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) had the game-winning RBI.  Senior Tommy Duddleston (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle Institute) went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
 
Payton Nelson (Wausau, Wis./West) led off the game with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch.  A sac fly to right by Simmons gave the Pointers a 1-0 lead.
 
The Eagles evened the game at 1-1 in the fourth stringing together three two-out hits.
 
The Pointers regain the lead in the fifth.  Duddleston hit a double to lead off.  He moved to third on a fly out and scored on an RBI fielder's choice by Simmons.
 
Benedictine tied the game again in the bottom of the fifth on just one hit and two UWSP errors.
 
Simmons drew a leadoff walk in the eighth.  He advanced to third on a BU error that put runners on the corners.  Luedtke grounded out and the eventual game-winning run came home on the play.
 
Casey Pickering (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) was solid in his first career start with 4.1 innings and five strikeouts.  Austin Syvertson (Randolph, Wis./Randolph) tossed the final 4.2 frames to earn the win.  He struck out three.
 
The Pointers travel to Florida to begin the Spring Trip on March 14 against Crown.  First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. ET.
