Box Score EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (9-13-6) suffered a 5-0 loss at the hands of No. 3 UW-Eau Claire (22-3-2) in the WIAC Championship semifinals (presented by Culver's).
The Pointers held the Blugolds off the board until the 14:05 mark of the first. The deficit was just one until early in the second.
At the 2:44 mark of the second, UWEC made it 2-0. Late in the second, the Blugolds pushed the lead to three.
In the third period, UWEC scored on the power play and tacked on an empty-net goal to complete the scoring.
UWSP mustered just 10 shots on goal in the game.
Dani Heitsman (Janesville, Wis./Rock County Fury),
Mary Kremer (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead Warhawks),
Cassie Newcomer (McFarland, Wis./Madison Capitols) and
Maike Zipp (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) tied for the team lead with two shots on goal apiece.
Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) started in net and made 21 saves. Senior
Marit Larson (Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul) played the final six-plus minutes with five saves in her career finale.
This season, the Pointers skated to six ties, matching the program record set in 2007-08. Kremer led the team in scoring this year with 17 points and 10 goals.
