LA CROSSE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (9-14, 4-8) fell behind in the first quarter and were unable to catch up in a 79-50 loss at UW-La Crosse (17-6, 8-4).
Taylor Greenheck (Sauk Prairie, Wis./Sauk Prairie) led the Pointers in scoring with 11 points.
Bailee Collins (Milton, Wis./Milton) added 10 points and topped UWSP with eight rebounds.
Amber Baehman (Plainfield, Wis./Tri-County) scored just 21 seconds into the game to give UWSP a 2-0 lead. The Eagles then closed the quarter on a 14-1 run.
Collins got UWSP's offense rolling a little under two minutes into the second quarter.
Jessica Slowik (Elcho, Wis./Elcho) hit a three and UWSP was back within five at 21-16 midway through the quarter. UWL responded with a trio of threes and the deficit was back to double digits at the half, 40-29.
Greenheck scored four points in the third quarter, but UWSP was unable to cut into UWL's lead. In the fourth,
Carly Cerrato (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) hit a three to end a 10-0 run by the Eagles. UWL put up 10-straight again until a three by Collins, but the Pointers were down big.
UWSP returns to Berg Gym for the final home conference game on Wednesday (Feb. 19) at 7:00 p.m. against UW-Stout.
