Pointers Announce 2019 Volleyball Slate

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – UW-Stevens Point head volleyball coach Lyndsay Kooi announced the recent completion of her team's schedule for the 2019 season.  UWSP will play 12 home matches, including three tournaments, and face nine opponents from last season's NCAA Tournament.

The Pointers open the season with five-straight matches away from Berg Gym, including consecutive games against NCAA Tournament foes to open the season on August 30.  UWSP faces DePauw and the University of Chicago on opening day, both teams that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.  The tournament concludes with matches against UT-Dallas and Centre College.  UWSP travels to Lakeland to round out the road swing.
 
UWSP begins a six-game homestand on Sept. 6 against Concordia (Wis.) in the opening match of the Pointers Invitational I at 3:00 p.m.  The Pointers also face Elmhurst, Ripon and Bethel on the weekend.  On Sept. 11, UWSP will host the WIAC/MWC Quad taking on St. Norbert and Lawrence that night.
 
Another NCAA Tournament opponent awaits as a four-match road swing begins in Minnesota on Sept. 13.  UWSP will play Minnesota-Morris to start a three-match weekend at the Bethel Tournament.  The road trip concludes in River Falls with the conference opener at UWRF.
 
The Pointers return home on Sept. 20 for four-straight, including three matches in the Pointers Invitational II.  Contests against North Park and Millikin precede a matchup with St. Thomas, another NCAA Tournament team from 2018.  UWSP's conference home opener against UW-Stout on Sept. 25 closes out the homestand.
 
A busy September ends with a pair of matches at the Dubuque Tri, including the host Spartans, who made the NCAA Tournament in 2018.  A visit to UW-Platteville opens October.
 
UWSP hosts UW-Oshkosh on Oct. 9 at 7:00 p.m. before another four-match away span.  After facing Carroll and Millikin at the UW-Whitewater Dig Panici Classic, the Pointers face three-straight NCAA Tournament foes.  Gustavus Adolphus ends the weekend at UWW.  The Pointers travel to Carthage on Oct. 16 before facing UW-Eau Claire in the home finale on Oct. 19.
 
The regular season ends with trips to UW-La Crosse, the CUW Tournament and UW-Whitewater.  The top six teams in the league standings qualify for the WIAC Tournament which begins on Nov. 5.
 
The Pointers finished 2018 with an 18-16 record and advanced to the semifinals of the WIAC Tournament.  All-American April Gehl (Hilbert, Wis./Hilbert) returns for her senior season at UWSP in 2019.  Her 582 kills last season shattered the school record and was second in the nation.
