STEVENS Point, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (16-7, 8-5) jumped out to a 9-0 lead and never looked back in an 80-53 win over UW-Stout (6-18, 0-13) on Senior Night.
Senior
Nate Dodge (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) led all players with 18 points. He grabbed two boards, had a steal and dished out two assists.
Ethan Bublitz (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) added 10 points and had six rebounds.
Canon O'Heron (Bangor, Wis./Bangor) led the Pointers with eight rebounds. UWSP had 13 players record points in the game, including senior
Mark Nelson (Madison, Wis./Monona Grove), who returned from a lengthy injury.
Dodge scored seven of the first nine points in the game as UWSP took a 9-0 lead.
Brandon Spray (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) and
Chaz Mootz (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) scored on consecutive possessions to put the Pointers ahead 13-5. After a Blue Devils' basket, the Pointers blew the game open.
O'Heron scored four-straight points. UW-Stout hit a three and UWSP put up the next 18 points to take a 35-10 lead with
Drew Fredrickson (Mount Horeb, Wis./Mount Horeb) hitting two triples in the run.
Koko Songolo (Madison, Wis./Memorial) and
Matt Koerner (West Bend, Wis./West) hit from behind the arc and the lead was 51-25 at the half.
Blake Ehrke (Deerfield, Wis./Deerfield) opened the second half with a bucket and Dodge completed an and-one.
Ethan Bublitz (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) hit a three-pointer and UW-Stout got within 19 twice, but UWSP was in control.
A 13-0 run by the Pointers pushed the advantage to 32 with 3:23 remaining. Tauber added a late bucket and senior
Mark Nelson (Madison, Wis./Monona Grove) returned to the floor and hit a free throw to become the 13th Pointer on the scoresheet.
UWSP wraps up the regular season on Saturday at UW-Platteville. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
