MENOMONIE, Wis, - The No. 1-ranked UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (20-0-2, 5-0-0) remained unbeaten, defeating UW-Stout (13-8-1, 0-4-1), by a 3-1 score on Friday at Fanetti Community Center.
Following a scoreless first period,
B.J. Duffin (Red Deer, Alta.) got the Pointers on the board, putting in a rebound off a
Stephan Beauvais (Shelby Township, Mich.) shot 8:46 into the second period.
Tanner Karty (Oklahoma City, Okla.) made it a 2-0 lead at the 16:08 mark of the second, tipping in a shot from
Kelly O'Brien (Detroit, Mich.) and
Ryan Bittner (Crookston, Minn.).
Less than a minute into the third period, Karty tallied his second of the night, with the assist going to Beauvais, to increase the lead to 3-0.
Lucas Carroll broke up the shutout for the Blue Devils, scoring with 6:08 left to go in the third.
Freshman goaltender
Eli Billing (Windsor, Ont.) made his third career start, improved to 2-0-1 on the season. He made 24 saves in the game. Blue Devils' goaltender Tommi Ahlgren took the loss, making 23 saves.
The Pointers get return home to face UW-Superior on Saturday (Feb. 2) at K.B. Willett Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Saturday is the annual TV raffle sponsored by Scaffidi Motors.
